Joao was born in Brasilia, Brazil and moved to Rio de Janeiro was he was 17. In his youth he was very active in swimming.
As part of the sports and nutrition world he was a top sales rep for Optimum Nutrition and started
his own store in 1999. During this time he developed a friendship with Carlson Gracie.
He has been teaching martial arts in the Austin Area for 2 decades and has operated his own school
for 16 years, and now owns and operates 2 schools in the austin area.
He is considered an expert on teaching children , with many top instructors seeking his advice.
He has created numerous DVDs and video resources for instructors.
When not teaching he enjoys outdoor activities such as rock climbing, hiking and swimming.
